This first solo recording of the Eule Organ of Magdalen College, Oxford and debut solo CD for Alexander Pott features a wide range of music from Wagner to Delius, showcasing the instrument’s German Romantic heritage as well as its suitability for English 20th-Century transcription, thanks to its distinctive voice, colour, breadth and sensitivity.

Spanning 500 years from the exquisite simplicity of Thomas Tallis’ perfect miniature O nata lux through Britten’s jubilant Festival Te Deum to Cheryl Frances-Hoad’s majestic O come let us sing unto the lord, this album celebrates the hope and anticipation that comes with the beginning of a new day.

Marking Oriel College’s 700th anniversary, this unique collection explores the diverse musical traditions connected with the college. Oriel College Choir is conducted by David Maw, and joined by Alexander Pott (organ), Grace Davidson (soprano), Craig Ogden (guitar), and the Tippett Quartet.

Voices of Thunder features a range of spectacular choral pieces that showcase Magdalen College Chapel’s new Eule organ. The recording includes music from Joseph Haydn to Judith Weir, as well as Arvo Pärt’s atmospheric Beatitudes, Libby Larsen’s playful I will sing and raise a psalm, and Hubert Parry’s thunderous Blest Pair of Sirens.

Priest, architect and composer Henry Aldrich was a key figure in the musical life of 17th century Oxford. This second album of his sacred choral music includes verse and full anthems, choral arrangements, recompositions, and occasional music. Oriel College Chapel Choir are directed by David Maw and accompanied by Alexander Pott.

Featuring timeless melodies from ‘Guide me, O thou great redeemer’ to ‘Abide with me’, this stunning collection of some of the best-loved hymns of all time from The Choir of Magdalen College, Oxford, accompanied by the College’s magnificent Eule organ, offers a glimpse into the daily musical life of this celebrated choir.

Celebrating the long history of choral and organ music at Magdalen College, this CD charts a journey through some of the composers associated with the college from its founding in 1480 up to the present day. As well as accompanying music by Ives, Martin, Stainer, and Whitbourn, Alexander Pott plays ‘Tuba Tune’ by a former Magdalen chorister, Norman Cocker.

Magdalen College Choir explore the repertoire that has provided the bedrock of the college’s musical life for the last 500 years, all of which was written for the end of the day. The CD was highly reviewed by Gramophone, with special mention of ‘Behold, thou hast made my days’ by Gibbons, featuring Sebastian Hill (Tenor) and Alexander Pott (organ).

The Choir of Magdalen College, Oxford bring their beautiful sound to 14 glorious anthems composed by great composers associated with the city of Oxford. The music transports us to the iconic spires of the city, pointing us towards the clouds with beautiful harmonies. Anthems by Berkeley, Harwood, and Leighton are accompanied by Alexander Pott.
